Lecturer Information
Introduction
All potential lecturers should read the following documents carefully:
Potential authors should also view the following videos to understand the video recording process that we are using:
How to Develop and Produce Camtasia Studio 4 Presentations by Robert O'Donnell, Ph.D. (78 minutes in two parts) |
||
| Part 1 | Part 2 | |
Modifications for Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 versus 2003 When Using Camtasia Studio 4.02 by Robert O'Donnell, Ph.D. (7 minutes) |
||
As an aid to remembering the instructions during recording and producing a session, a 2-page "cheat sheet" of the instructions will be a big help.
A quick checklist for developing tutorials is located here for download as a PDF.
Additional Lecturer Information
The AESS Education Committee will review all submissions for these educational series using the following review criteria:
- Video and Audio Quality
- Well-Matched to student technical level
- Not boring
- Strongly motivating
- Not overtly marketing or recruiting-oriented (only exception: the last viewgraph may state that if the students are interested in receiving more information from the institution presenting the lecture, they can follow the provided URL)
Seminars should use the video and recording equipment and output format that has been specified for the sake of uniformity.
Equipment not available by a corporation or university to develop materials can be acquired via a loan from the AESS Education Committee.
Before preliminary acceptance of a technical lecture by an organization, the committee will require an advance copy of the viewgraphs to be presented.
Most importantly, all material must be screened for intellectual property (copyright) issues, ITAR issues (for US companies), and any government clearance issues, as the material will be presented on the Web and accessible worldwide.
Camtasia Studio Information
The enabling tools of this technical initiative are the present maturity and low-cost of user-friendly software which can screen-capture Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and simultaneously record first-rate video and audio of the speaker. The software product we will be using for this integration is Camtasia Studio 4.0 developed by TechSmith. The second enabling tool is the development of very low-cost, high-resolution web camera technology, which integrates seamlessly to Camtasia. We have also found that several camcorders (3 manufactured by Sony) stream video and audio seamlessly to Camtasia. When these two products are connected and installed in a Microsoft Windows PC with a 2.3GHz processor and 1Gb of RAM, the results are superb and very inexpensive to produce.
Software Required for Viewing and Developing Tutorials:
Camtasia Studio software (30-day free trial)
Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software)
Adobe Flash Player (free software)
Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2003 (free software) or
Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007 (free software)
